It is incredible to
realize that I have finally reached the final week of my genius hour research!
The past four weeks have flown by so quickly!
Over the past four
weeks, I have learned so much about the importance of sleep as well as
different strategies to better my own sleeping patterns. Within this last week
itself, I have truly noticed a positive change in my ability to wake up each
morning and get through the day. I feel more energized than before and find
myself being able to concentrate better on daily tasks, whether it's focusing
on my school work or feeling more motivated to go to the gym. My mood has also
improved significantly as well, as I no longer feel sluggish or easily
agitated. I cannot attest to whether or not my grades have improved, as I have
not yet received any marks for my assignments as of yet. Nevertheless, I can
honestly say that sleeping patterns do in fact have an impact on academic
performance through its ability to affect one's motivation and concentration
abilities. I am very proud of the changes that I have made to my sleeping
patterns thus far, and feel inspired to commit to this new lifestyle.
Overall, I believe
that genius hour projects are a fantastic way to allow students to research
into topics that they are interested in. By doing so, students will feel
supported to take learning into their own hands. Educators must caution
however, that some students are accustomed to structure and 'being told what to
do'. Therefore, some students may feel uneasy directing their own learning. To
prevent this feeling among my future students, I intend to provide a list of
topic ideas as well as inquire about my students interests/hobbies to help
guide them in selecting a topic. Ultimately, I truly do see myself utilizing
genus hour in my own classroom as a way of promoting learning beyond the
classroom and encouraging my students to design meaningful and authentic
work.
